Tips for Using Static Ropes
Type A Static Rope: Used in caving, rescue, and high-altitude operations. When used for high-altitude work, the rope can be employed with other equipment for work positioning while under tension or for suspending and moving into or out of work areas.
Type B Static Rope: Offers lower performance compared to Type A ropes. It is used alongside Type A ropes as auxiliary protection. When using Type B ropes, ensure they are kept away from abrasion, cutting, and natural wear to reduce the risk of falls.
Before using the rope, carefully read and retain the static rope instruction manual.
The following guidelines apply to Type A static ropes used in caving, rescue, and rope access work.
For caving practice, working on ropes, high-altitude operations, or fixed rope setups for rescue and safety where free climbing is involved, dynamic ropes compliant with the EN892 standard must be used. Low-elongation ropes must never be used in situations where the fall factor exceeds 1.
The safety system must include a reliable anchor point at or above the user’s height. Avoid slack between the user and the protection point.
Various components form a safety chain (harness, connection points, slings, anchors, protection devices, descenders, etc.). All must comply with EN standards and be compatible with the static rope.
When using mechanical devices such as descent arrest systems or other adjustment equipment, ensure the rope diameter and other parameters are compatible. It is recommended to use a secure figure-eight knot for connections.
Do not use carabiners to connect the user’s harness when there is a risk of falling.
Connection points should be made with a figure-eight knot at any point on the rope. The rope end at the knot should extend at least 10 cm. Any other terminal connection method must receive written approval from the static rope manufacturer before use.
This static rope equipment is intended for use only by individuals capable of taking responsibility for their own safety.
